CONFIDENTIALITY
I will keep everything we discuss during our sessions completely confidential, whether we meet in person, by phone or email. The only exceptions to this are:
 
  • If you give me written permission to talk about your treatment to someone else (e.g., a doctor, former therapist or family member)
  • If you are in danger of hurting yourself or someone else - as mandated by State of Oregon law
  • If someone is hurting you
 
If you ever have concerns about confidentiality or other related issues, please speak to me about them right away.

COORDINATION OF CARE:  If you are taking medication or are under a doctor or other professional's care, it will enhance your treatment if I can speak with other practitioners who are helping you. Research shows that, for some conditions, a combination of care modalities is more effective. For example, medication is helpful for some cases of depression or anxiety, but combined with counseling, the benefits are greatly increased. Similarly, the positive effects of counseling can be augmented with the addition of regular exercise.  I can better serve you if I understand the treatment plans being implemented by other practitioners who work with you.
